I was invited along to The Pasta Project to try out their pizza menu, so I didn't pay for my food and drink and received some freebies to take home, however this still represents an honest unbiased review.

It's in quite an unassuming location but still only a short bus or car journey from the city centre. And judging from the packed bus I was on, this is a heavily populated area of Manchester as well.

The decor is slick and clean but still welcoming. By sharing with Jess H and getting half and half I was able to sample a large selection of the pizzas on offer, including Ciccia (sausage, pepperoni, nduja - basically a fancy meat feast), Fourfour (mozzarella, gorgonzola, fontina, parmesan), Polla (grilled chicken, peppers, mushrooms) and a special that I can't remember the name of that had bacon, potato, rosemary, provolone.

Potato on pizza is something I can wholeheartedly endorse, let me tell you. However all were delicious and in particular I would order the Ciccia again. I don't usually opt for very meaty pizzas and also sometimes find nduja to be excessively spicy, but this all came together quite perfectly.

I was also given some fresh pasta and sauce to take home which was SO delicious. I often think of pasta as a fairly boring/standard option, something I will opt for when getting home late from the gym, and not something I will often choose at Italian restaurants. However this pasta made me remember how good pasta can be- I ate it simply with the tomato sauce provided and some mozzarella thrown in, and loved it.

Although I didn't pay for what I had the prices are extremely reasonable (see my pics for the pizza menu, and you can find their pasta menu online). Residents of Harpurhey and nearby areas, you need to get yourself here - pronto!

Located in Harpurhey Shopping Centre, you'd be forgiven for not realising The Pasta Project exists. It's a modern take on Italian fast food and would definitely have queues out of the door each lunchtime if located in central Manchester.

There is only a small selection of carefully chosen combinations, all with freshly made pasta, split into meat and vegetable options. I opted for the Genova - fusili pasta, green pesto, and toasted pine nuts topped with parmesan. Everything is made behind the counter so you can see it being tossed and mixed throughout the process.

For £4.50 (going up to around £5 with meat) you get a decent lunch portion of fresh and fairly healthy feeling pasta. What's not to love? If you're not a pasta fan they also have pizza and some toasted flatbreads available, plus pastries and muffins in the morning.

There's also a selection of homemade desserts - tiramisu, of course - and a range of drinks in the cooler which is worth browsing.
